    Ms. Allen, I knew and loved Gayleatha from her first week on the Howard campus in 1964. She briefed me on her illness on her last birthday. The internet is how I learned of her passing, like you. I was also fortunate enough to have been introduced to Mrs. Veal in Edison in 65. Gay’s family, friends and work associates have all lost a true ambassador of hope and strength. I work in elementary schools and often see qualities Gay possessed in young Black girls. Here’s to endless brilliance and boundless beauty.
