Ms. Allen, I knew and loved Gayleatha from her first week on the Howard campus in 1964. She briefed me on her illness on her last birthday. The internet is how I learned of her passing, like you. I was also fortunate enough to have been introduced to Mrs. Veal in Edison in 65. Gay’s family, friends and work associates have all lost a true ambassador of hope and strength. I work in elementary schools and often see qualities Gay possessed in young Black girls. Here’s to endless brilliance and boundless beauty.
So nice to hear from you Mr. Nesbitt. We all suffered a big loss with her passing, and my Aunt Minnie Belle Veal was certainly a huge influence on her. Thanks so much for sharing.
